Career Options for Ayush doctors in India
What to do after BAMS/BHMS?
(practical suggestions as per experience)
Doing MD in ur own branch in different subjects, mostly it's for academic purpose before practice or for academic career & doing practice, both work done part times can also work for many.
Doing ur own pathy/practice. In that I would suggest u to focus on one branch/disease more thn doing everything, like one can focus only on Skin dz, one can focus on Cosmetics or Hair dz, one can focus on OBGY related issues, etc.
Doing GP. which most of the students prefer/choose sply in peripheral areas. I would suggest one thing as per current situation in India, do it very safely, at EOD it's not 100% safe, so be careful. unless some personal or patient related issues r not raised to govt office, it's still safe. But after allegations, if any raised, it can be different and difficult. Diagnose better, treat better and refer early. Be in limits. it is still one of the most common n most earning option for ayush doctors.
Govt job as medical officers or many other options are there after giving government exams. few of my frnz are doing grt in govt sector and are happy. clearing UPSC/GPSC can be life changing.
Working in mediclaim/insurance field, where u can be in company side for investigation and processing or from hospital side to tk care of all the files and cashless. side by side u can also develop ur own agency for mediclaim/insurance doing tie up with some good agent.
Working as RMO, second most common i guess in India, in that, if u work in wards and keep on doing it, knowledge and money would be limited, u hv to enter in ICU, and work as an assistant to intensivist. here knowledge, opportunities and money r endless, if u r sincere and dedicated.
Working as an assistant to one specialist, like surgeon or gynec or physician or psychology dept, making their life easier and it's very interesting & dignified job also. Like for an example u can become OT assistant with some good doctors and u can explore many new opportunities. u can take their burden of peri operative period in managing pts. like u can work with nephrology dept and learn to look after their OPD and dialysis pts. There are many such examples where BHMS or BAMS Dr have become as good as their consultant, working for long term as an assistant. and it's one of the safest option legally. I hv known few people working in OPD OT or IVF centers and doing great.
Work in administrative work, like hospital admin or CEO or unit head after doing relevant course for the same. in this one other area is to focus on quality aspects of big hospitals and work for NABH like standardisation process.
Developing few paramedical services on larger scale hv many opportunities like Ambulance services, Home care service, Old age medical homes, Working with Pharma, Developing bio-medical equipment firm etc.
Going abroad and exploring whole together different or related medical and paramedical services there as per country u choose and it has many options if u explore and do well. Personal suggestion is to explore these options more for new comers.
*There may be other and better options available, which I m not aware of, explore it. This is just as per my knowledge and experience.
KEYNOTE :
Good and deep understanding of subject / medical things / paramedical things is the Key for good career. After your final year studies, focus on gathering knowledge of what u r planning to work in, for atleast 3-5 years. Money & dignity will follow it, undoubtedly.
